What are Ice Dams?
Ice Dams on Pitched Roofs
Ice dams occur on pitched roofs when melted snow refreezes on the roof edge, as well as in valleys, gutters, and downspouts.
These frozen barriers trap snowmelt, which can leak under the shingles and through the roof seams to enter the building.
Ice Dams on Flat Roofs
Ice dams occur on flat roofs when melted snow refreezes around drains, scuppers, and downspouts.
These frozen barriers trap snowmelt, which can pool around drains and leak into the building through cracks in the membrane.
These frozen barriers can trap water, potentially causing major leaks, structural damage, and even roof collapse.
Existing solutions, such as heating cables, steaming services, and roof replacement, have critical shortcomings though. They are all very expensive, unsafe, eco-destructive, and often labor-intensive.
Floe: A Radical New Approach
From speaking with 100s of folks across the US and Canada, we have learned what is needed to deliver asset protection and peace of mind. We've spent years developing and validating the best solution available to tackle ice and snow issues.
Floe offers a new alternative to prevent ice dam damage. Rather than removing the ice and snow, which is expensive and eco-destructive, we are solving the core issue: discharging the melted snow.
Our system autonomously pumps deicing fluid onto the roof as needed to create channels onto the roof as needed to create channels for water to drain. Our deicer is clear, non-corrosive, biodegradable, and pet/plant safe. Floe provides peace of mind all winter long.
