Heating cables, steaming services, and roof replacement have critical shortcomings: they are all very expensive, unsafe, eco-destructive, and often labor-intensive. From speaking with 100s of folks across the US and Canada, we have learned what is needed to deliver asset protection and peace of mind. We've spent the last few years developing and validating the best solution available to tackle ice and snow issues.
Floe is the smart, cost-effective, and environmentally-friendly solution to address ice dams. The system can be applied to a range of property types, including commercial, industrial, multi-residential, and single-family homes. It can be easily retrofit to existing roofs or included in specifications for construction projects.
The product is proudly assembled in the USA and is compliant with the Build America, Buy America Act.
Ice Dam Formation and Dangers
Ice dams are barriers of ice that form on the roof, such as around drains, scuppers, and downspouts. They block melted snow from discharging, which can cause major leaks and costly damage if left unaddressed.
Don't wait for leaks and mold to act!
Floe is a prevention solution that will provide provide you peace of mind all winter long. Please reach out and we can provide a design proposal tailored to your needs.
How does it work?
Floe collects data from onboard sensors and weather data to predict and detect ice dams. When necessary, Floe delivers a precise volume of Deicer onto the roof to address ice and snow buildup across key areas (i.e. roof drains, scuppers, roof hatches, walkways, snow drifting areas). Floe’s Deicer is transparent, non-corrosive, biodegradable, and pet & plant safe.
Floe was spun out of MIT and Yale University. It has been developed and tested by world-class engineers in some of the harshest winter conditions over several years across the United States.
Key Features
System Overview & Capabilities
- A single Floe commercial system can cover up to 15 drains on up to a 500,000 sqft roof. Is your roof bigger? We can leverage multiple systems to address larger roofs and additional problem areas.
- The Floe system leverages a modular irrigation network with a mix of drip emitter tubing and sprayer nozzles that is tailor designed to address your ice and snow issues. It is compatible with a broad set of materials, including:<
- Single-Ply Membranes (EPDM, TPO, PVC, etc)
- Metal
- Modified bitumen and more
- Floe is the most sustainable deicing solution by leveraging <1% of the energy compared with other products like heating cables, which significantly lowers operating costs. It uses less power than a light bulb, making it the cost-effective solution.
- The system designed to last 10+ years so you can rely on it over time. It is weatherproof and can be easily stored inside a utility room, garage, or outside the building.
- Floe does not allow snowmelt to refreeze. Heating cables and steaming services melt ice and snow, only for it to freeze elsewhere and cause ice dams, burst downspouts, and dangerous black ice on the ground. Floe mixes with the snowmelt and keeps it flowing.
- Floe's tubing runs straight across the roof and has a minimal profile so you don't have to worry about tripping hazards.
- The system is simple: it connects to a standard 120V outlet and has both WiFi and cellular connectivity. It also also compatible with standard Building Management Systems.
- Floe is the safe ice dam prevention solution. It does not have high-power electrical systems on wet roofs that can cause electrocutions and building fires. It also reduces the need to get workers to risk their lives on these icy surfaces each winter.
- Floe is very simple to install: it can be easily set up by an internal facilities team, roofer, or contractor within a few hours. It does not require specialized tools or training, nor does it require a plumber or electrician to install.
- Floe is weatherproof and UV-resistant. The agriculture-grade tubing is set up once and can be left installed year-round for 10+ years.
- The system is easily removable and replaceable. The installation also does not penetrate any roofing materials so does not void roof warranties.
- The Floe system offers simple and cost-effective maintenance: it can be easily managed through the onboard control panel and remotely.
- The system automatically activates and deactivates so you don't have to worry about turning it on or forgetting to turn it off
- The product provides immediate remote alerts if issues arise, such as if the Deicer is running low or if the system needs attention
- The robust, agricultural-grade irrigation network is weatherproof, animal-proof, and UV resistant and can installed year-round for 10+ years.
- Any issues with the modular irrigation network can be easily and inexpensively repaired compared to heating cables that have to be entirely removed and replaced.
- The Deicer can be stored for several years and can be simply and easily reordered.
- Non-corrosive
- Biodegradable
- Non-flammable
- Active to -76F
- Pet & plant safe
- Transparent
- Easily stored for several years
- Readily available and can be replenished within 2-5 business days/li>
