Originally spun out of MIT and Yale, the technology has been rigorously developed and validated in cold chambers with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and tested at dozens of sites across the United States. Through extensive feedback from property owners, property managers, and maintenance teams, we have continuously refined and enhanced the product over several years.

Today, Floe is trusted by leading real estate players throughout the U.S. and Canada for reliable asset protection and peace of mind during the winter months.

Meet Floe: The Innovative Solution for Winter Protection

Floe provides a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective alternative to traditional methods like electric melting systems and manual removal services for managing rooftop ice and snow. With its hands-off, automated approach, Floe minimizes risk and maximizes effectiveness, offering a superior solution for winter roof protection.

Floe is engineered for simplicity and durability, featuring three key components:

Floe Console
A weatherproof enclosure containing a powerful pump, electronics, and control interface. It features cellular LTE, Wi-Fi, and satellite connectivity to help ensure a stable connection, even in remote environments. The intelligent system leverages sensors, real-time weather data, and advanced algorithms to predict and detect ice and snow accumulation, automatically activating when necessary to dispense the optimal amount of Floe Deicer.
Floe Deicer
A clear, non-corrosive, biodegradable solution that is safe for both animals and plants, and among the most eco-friendly and effective deicers on the market. It is non-flammable and non-hazardous. An SDS is readily available upon request.
Floe Rooftop Irrigation Network
Made from robust, UV-rated tubing that is designed to remain on the roof year-round. The modular system easily adapts to various use cases and operates without high-power electrical systems, making it far safer than electric melting systems. Unlike the obtrusive zigzag patterns of heating cables, the small tubing is discreetly installed in straight lines, seamlessly blending with the building's facade and remaining barely visible from the ground.

Modular, Flexible Installation: The Floe Console and Deicer container can be easily installed indoors or outdoors and concealed for both aesthetics and security. The system is powerful enough to pump Deicer several stories high, covering up to 600 ft of pitched roof or 500,000 sqft of flat roof (20 drains), excluding the non-emitter conduit tubing that transports Deicer to targeted application areas.

Why Choose Floe?

Effective, Dependable, and Enduring Protection

Superior, Safer Ice and Snow Management
Floe offers a safer and more reliable solution to address ice and snow buildup, by providing consistent, 24/7 automated protection without the risks associated with traditional approaches like electric melting systems and manual removal services.

Conventional solutions, such as electric melting or steaming services, often cause melted ice and snow to refreeze downstream, leading to new hazards like dangerous icicles, frozen and burst gutters and downspouts, and slippery black ice on walkways. These methods also carry substantial safety risks and liabilities. Electric melting systems are high-power electrical units that operate on wet roofs, posing dangers such as equipment burnout, fires, electrocution, and accelerated wear on roofing materials- ultimately shortening their lifespan. Manual removal and steaming services pose their own risks, exposing workers to elevated, icy surfaces where falls and injuries are common, and often causing additional roof damage with their tools and equipment.

Floe provides a safer, more efficient solution without these critical drawbacks. The Floe Deicer is a non-corrosive, biodegradable, pet & plant safe solution that melts the ice and snow and mixes with the runoff to prevent refreezing. This helps eliminate the formation of hazardous icicles, frozen gutters and downspouts, and black ice. Floe also avoids the use of high-power electrical components on the roof, significantly reducing safety risks and helping to extend the roof's lifespan.
Hands-Off Automation for Continuous Protection
Unlike other solutions that require manual activation or frequent service calls after heavy snowfalls, Floe operates automatically and reliably in the background 24/7 to safeguard your roof from hazardous ice and snow accumulation. The system is designed for a quick and simple one-time setup, and remains installed year-round. The system features a console that connects to any standard outlet and is ready for immediate use without additional programming.

Floe activates automatically when winter arrives and shuts off once the season ends, leveraging a combination of sensors and real-time weather data to operate only when necessary. The system is also equipped with several built-in features for automated maintenance to support hands-free operation.

With the many demands of property management, rooftop ice and snow mitigation should not be an added burden. Floe offers seamless asset protection, providing peace of mind throughout the winter season.
Stay Ahead with Instant Notifications and Insights
We've heard countless stories of electric melting systems failing unexpectedly or roofing companies not showing up when urgently needed, leaving property owners and managers to deal with the costly consequences. Floe eliminates these concerns by offering a reliable solution that provides 24/7 visibility to ensure peace of mind throughout the winter. The system is equipped with several sensors to detect potential issues in advance, allowing for proactive responses if needed. With integrated cellular LTE, Wi-Fi, and satellite connectivity, Floe delivers seamless, uninterrupted updates, no matter where it is installed. Alerts and notifications are sent directly to your desktop and mobile devices, keeping you informed at all times.
Durable and Built to Last
Reliability and robustness are at the core of Floe's design. Engineered to remain installed year-round for 10+ years, the system has undergone rigorously accelerated life testing in professional thermal chambers to validate its ability to withstand extreme conditions. Whether the Console is installed indoors or outdoors, it is fully weatherproof and capable of enduring both harsh, cold winters and intense summer heat, ensuring consistent performance over time. Likewise, the rooftop irrigation network is built to last, with UV-rated tubing that remains on the roof year-round and can withstand foot traffic.
Easy Upkeep and Simplified Repairs to Minimize Downtime
Floe protects your roof with minimal maintenance and hands-free operation. The only routine upkeep required is the annual replacement of the Floe Deicer container, with automatic notifications when the fluid is low. The refill process is easy and takes less than five minutes: the intake rod is simply removed from the old container and inserted into the new one.

While Floe is built for durability, if an issue arises, repairs can be easily managed to quickly restore functionality. Unlike electric melting systems that require specialized electricians and technicians, Floe's rooftop network features robust, yet simple quick-connectors that can be replaced by anyone without specialized tools or training. The console panel can also be easily removed and shipped for repairs, and a replacement can be quickly arranged.

For commercial firms seeking comprehensive, end-to-end maintenance support, Floe has established a network of reliable service partners across the United States and Canada that are ready to assist.

Superior Results, Efficiently Delivered

Enhance Your Operations with a Reliable, Cost-Effective Solution
Conventional ice and snow mitigation solutions are often expensive. Electric melting systems, for instance, have substantial installation costs due to the need for specialized electricians and technicians. Their operating costs can reach thousands of dollars per month due to their substantial electrical consumption, and these costs are unlikely to decrease with rising energy prices. Additionally, the significant carbon footprint of these systems is leading many counties to impose fees on their operation, further increasing expenses. These high-power systems are also prone to burnout after only a few years, leading to frequent and costly repairs or replacements. Manual removal services can be similarly prohibitively expensive, particularly after heavy snowfalls when demand is highest, with costs reaching tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. As a result, many avoid using these preventive solutions altogether, risking substantial liabilities, such as roof damage, major leaks, roof collapse, and serious injury.

Floe delivers reliable asset protection, cost-effectively. Its installation is simpler and safer, reducing costs compared to electric melting systems. With its robust, weather-tested design and its simple repairs, it is engineered to remain on your roof for 10+ years, enhancing its lifetime value. Given its minimal energy footprint and ability to activate only when necessary through real-time data and advanced algorithms, Floe reduces operating costs by over 40% compared to traditional solutions. Considering the high costs from damage from inadequate protection, Floe quickly pays for itself by preventing damage from even a single storm.
Safeguard Both Your Roof and the Planet Sustainably
Traditional methods for managing ice and snow are often highly energy-intensive and inefficient. Electric melting systems consume vast amounts of electricity to generate heat during the coldest months, while manual removal services frequently rely on gasoline-powered steaming machines to melt ice and snow. Both approaches lead to significant waste and environmental harm.

At Floe, our mission is to protect both your property and the planet. Floe is designed to safeguard your roof from ice and snow damage while minimizing its environmental impact. The Floe Deicer is among the most eco-friendly and effective options available; it is non-corrosive, biodegradable, and pet & plant safe. Floe also offers a far more sustainable alternative to traditional solutions, using less than 1% of the energy and generating a minimal carbon footprint, resulting in both cost savings and a safer solution for the environment. Additionally, by extending the lifespan of roofs and reducing the need for premature repairs and replacements, Floe helps prevent petroleum-based building materials from ending up in landfills, contributing to a more sustainable future.
